Career planning framework

Within the two South Thames Foundations Schools career planning is embedded within the foundation curriculum, with locally provided activities to introduce career-planning tools. These tools are linked into a four-stage career-planning framework:

  • Stage 1: self-assessment e.g. skills, interests, values
  • Stage 2: career exploration e.g. how to research different career options
  • Stage 3: decision making e.g. look at how you have made decisions
  • Stage 4: plan implementation e.g. application forms and interview preparation

During the two-year foundation programme this four-stage framework can be used for career planning and form the basis of discussions with local trust based educational supervisors. Further information on how the four stages can be spread over the two years is shown on this timeline.

What you choose for the next stage of your career should be a personal decision. Do please ensure that you make use of a planned approach and investigate career options fully before making that decision.
